First, there is a difference between speaking, talking, and giving speeches.
There is also a difference between storytelling and Storytizing.
Speaking is when you are getting paid to give a talk or presentation. A talk is when you are giving a talk or presentation and not getting paid. These are used quite often interchangeably.
Giving a speech like a college commencement speech? Typically given by someone with no training to talk. A college professor or board of trustee member. Almost always boring to a fault and gives little or no useful information.
These people don’t even realize they are boring their audience to death and never get any better because people always give them accolades after the event is over.
You may have seen your boss or people leading meetings or seminars also lacking the skills to actually engage or entertain an audience.
Storytelling and storytizing will actually be a Complete Unit in my primary course and is a stand-alone course to help you be a great speaker and presenter. We will briefly touch on it in this course.
Okay! Are you ready?
The very first thing you have to do is pick a topic, a signature talk. What are you going to talk about?
As a professional speaker this is usually what you will be basing your career speaking about.
Maybe your expertise is in Managing People, Running a Retail Store, Selling Widgets to Rhinoceros. (Imposserous!)
You get to select any topic you want in order to practice. In this beginner stage you can’t select a wrong topic or subject.
How to raise kids, the history of why marijuana is illegal, how to buy the right make-up, how to build an online business, how to make a loaf of bread, why kids education is important.
You will simply be practicing on any single topic.
Here is a great place to start.
If you were going to write a book today what would it be about?
Step One – pick five subjects you might want to talk about and write them into your Workbook.
Then you will want to select one of those topics for this course.
As of this moment you are the expert on this topic and you will refer to yourself as the expert on this topic.
No worries. By the time you get done with this talk, you will be an expert on this subject.
